The Hobbs Cedar Wood Floating Duck Nesting House
We have seen a growing interest in all things ‘natural’ and the idea of providing safe, threat-free housing for wild birds in the garden and wild ducks on the pond. The Hobbs incorporates the beauty of cedar planking, with the ‘floatability’ of the duck canopy.
Free-floating duck housing has the advantage over ‘bank fixed’ nests in that it keeps the nest mid water, deterring the fox and other threats to the nesting duck. And for those with pond liners it enables them to provide nesting without fear of piercing that precious liner with a support post. The Hobbs Duck Nesting House provides one nesting bay and has a easy cleaning method in that the float has a ‘fixing free’ location for the house, to clean the nest you simply unhook and lift off the canopy, then the entire house will lift away from the floating deck, leaving the old nests fully exposed. Simply scoop the old nest into the trash or other appropriate method of disposal. The Hobbs comes complete with a float*.
Our duck houses are made with the same attention to detail and quality found at Forsham Cottage Arks, Goreside Farm, Ashford, Kent, who inspired our American version of this impressive design.
If you interested in purchasing a duck house or plans, please visit their webpage.

*Expected life span of the float material is 2-5 years, depending on individual usage and water quality. When the material expires, simply replace with blue foam from your local building store.

“Visitors don’t come to see just flashy designs; informative content is the prerequisite of website.“
If you do agree with the above statement, then, let me ask you a question, ‘Why content is the king’?
Simply, content is what makes a website popular and the words written on your website may build or spoil your web business. When we all do know that a website sufficiently depends upon its content, then why not to write the most beneficial content for your website? Writing effective and as I previously said, ‘the most beneficial content’ is not tough; in fact, it’s a very easy task, if you do follow some basic rules. Before we go and discuss those basic rules, let me make you aware about one thing. As per the records of various internet research studies, a visitor stays on your webpage just for 5-8 seconds, if the content fails to attract that potential customer, just think how many clients you’ll lose per hour? Let’s now come to effective tips to write effective web content-
Avoid grammatical & spelling mistakes
Let’s have an example. Suppose, you’re dealing with fireworks and your website contains various graphics exploding fireworks, I mean layout of the website is perfect. Just see the title of your web page, its ‘Cheep Fireworks’ (just suppose it). What would be the reaction of the visitor; he/she will laugh at you and would immediately click the back button.
That’s how you lose your customers. Please please please, always be careful that your spellings and grammar is correct. Always use spell checker and do care about commas, colons and semi colons etc. Always write sensible and unique content. Don’t let people laugh at you!
Content should be concise, clear and easily readable
It’d be beneficial if you keep the content short and to the point. Content should be concise as people don’t like to read lot of text and they do prefer the well written content as compared to several pages of just written content.
Secondly, it should be clear, means no repetitions and no extra writing. Content written in paragraphs seems easy to read so instead of writing from the beginning to the end of the page, segregate the content in paragraphs. Paragraphs should be short containing just three or four sentences.
Take care of the interest of visitors
Why you’ve placed the content on your website? Obviously, for visitors! So always keep in mind what visitors do expect from you. They want information and your goal is to anticipate their requirements.
If you do have a website about TV shows, then, tell them everything including what TV is, when shows do air, which show is out of running, which celebrity may join the new episodes and everything like that. It makes people to believe on you and your website. Try to provide them the maximum amount of information on your website and visitor will never think to go to some other site.
Avoid using multiple question and exclamation marks
This is issue which should be treated very wisely. Normally, people do think that multiple no. of question or exclamatory marks increases the curiosity of the reader. But nay, its really not like that. It seems odd and overly dramatic and may make the reader antsy. So, always keep this unnecessary stuff to a minimum.
Editing is more necessary than writing
Edit the content. Again edit it and keep on editing until it becomes ‘the best’. If there’s any mistake in your online content, correct it before thousands of other people point it out. First of all, check the content yourself for consistency in grammar, punctuations and capitalization etc. Have your content proofread. Make sure, it doesn’t contain any error and only then put it on the website.
In a nut shell, web designing company needs content for two reasons. One is visitors, as I’ve already said, take care of the interest of your visitors and provide them what they do want. Second is Search Engines like google, yahoo, Alta vista etc. To have a stable as well as high ranking in search engine results, ‘Always write as per visitors’ expectations but also as per search engine optimization strategies’, that’s way to have online success.

A good web design is the key requirement for the success of any web site. It is very important that the users understand an overview about the basics of a good web design. Some of the areas in which it is important to understand the overview of the web design are the areas of graphics, layout, fonts and the advertising. Some of the tips which are important to be kept in mind are as follows:
Graphics
It is always important that you use images which are small so that they can be accessible by all the browsers like the 10-12 KB images. However with the growing technology the number of broadband users is going high. But it is important that pages should be set up in such a way that they are fast to be accessed, lots of usage of images on to the web page makes the process very slow. It is also to be kept in mind that the big images are the main cause for reducing the speed of the accessibility of the pages.
It is always advisable that you do not use images that blink, move, flash or rotates. Incase you want to use them then ensure that you use them very sparingly. It is to be noted that the many studies have proven that these blinking images annoy the users, although you may find these images as attractive in the first instance but the users do not find these images to be attractive. There have been instances where the users actually try to hide the images so that they could read the rest of the content.
Layout
Standard layouts are always better: One thing which is considered as a good feature of a good web design is that you should use simple layout. I have come across a page wherein there has been usage of six frames, the development of such a web page might have been extremely fun but it does not serve the main purpose of a good web page that is providing information to the users. The standard layout has been scientifically proven for their results. So it is always better to use a three column layout because the main purpose for which a webpage is prepared is served with it.
Ensure that you use the white spaces properly because it is considered as one o0f the most important feature in the construction of a good web page.
Fonts
It is always important that you use the right kind of font on your web page. It would be advisable that you use Sans serif fonts because they are much easier to read and they also match with the monitor resolution. Incase you are using serif fonts for the normal text than it can blur the text so it is always advisable that you use serif for the headlines and sans-serif for text.

Color plays a very important role while designing a website. The color you choose can make a difference in attracting internet users to your site. Use of right color in web pages can affect the mood of the visitors and hence enhances business growth.
Mainly a website communicates to its visitors through two ways. One is content and the other one is creative use of color. Creating a balance between content and color of your webpage makes a big difference and creates an impact in the mind of visitors and it can help you in selling your product or service.
The primary colors used in web pages are red, blue and yellow. You can mix two to get a third color. All types of colors are associated with some kind of emotions. Understanding different variations of color and using them appropriately can make a powerful impact on internet users. That’s why a web designer should spend several hours choosing exact color of the website. Color always matters more than what you think and you can’t change them after a site is built.
Before deciding on color, you must keep in your mind the type of product/service you are trying to promote through your website. Think who your customers are and which color will appeal them. If it is a web-designing site, your choice may be blue, which means you are dependable enough to make a business.
Psychologists have shown that colors can influence moods. When some one visits your website and likes the color, an impression is made within seconds. Let’s see which color makes what kind of impact on web visitors.
1. Red-It represents danger or stop. It is the color of power and can easily grab the attention of online visitors.
2. Blue- It is the widely used color in websites. Blue emphasizes on seriousness, trustworthiness and success. Visitors may feel you are a dependable source.
3. Yellow-It is good in creating banners and logos. Yellow is associated with movement.
4. Black-The use of black is good in writing text and it is easy to read black words and phrases on white backgrounds.
5. Green- It is associated with money and security.
6. Purple- This color denotes royalty and justice. Therefore, many legal companies use purple in their web pages.
Use 3 to 4 colors while designing your web pages. The background color should be either black or white. White pages loads quicker than dark pages. The text color should be black as it is easier to read on white background. You can use contrast colors in headings and logos and links. Sometimes contrast colors are used in web pages like green and red to attract attention.
The use of right color will improve look of your site and hence helps in getting heavy traffic from your visitors.

Recently, I had a client contact me and asked about designing a website for him. He wanted all the newest technology, a fully "Flash" site, all the bells and whistles.
My advice was don't do it. He was appalled by that answer and demanded to know why I was advising against it. Because, I said, unless you want to pay an exorbitant amount for your design and then about 3 times that much for SEO and pay-per-click, there is no reason to design a site like that. The average user doesn't care about bells and whistles. They want a site they can use easily.
Still he was not convinced. Why would I have pay so much for SEO or pay-per click advertising, he asked. A Flash site would look fantastic, surely people will come?
“Build it and they will come" may work in the movies, but not on the internet. Search engine performance is the life blood of any website. A Flash site does not allow the designer to add metatags, keywords or text. Without words (actually typed into HTML) on a site, there is nothing there for search engines to “spider” and therefore nothing for them to index or search. Your beautiful, very expensive website is pretty much useless for SEO, unless you manage to find someone very creative who has found ways around this dilemma and, of course, you would pay big bucks for that. This also explains a large budget pay-per-click campaign to replace lost traffic by search engines.
He was still not convinced and found another designer who, of course, was willing to take the cash offered. He contacted me when the site went online, and he asked me to look at it.
It was a truly beautiful site, done all in Flash, just as he had wanted. However, on the home page, there was a huge white space at the bottom of the site. Suspecting that the designer or a SEO company had “hidden” text in this white space, I ran my mouse over the area, and sure enough hidden text. Hidden text is text placed on page that is the exact same color as the background. ( Example: white text on a white background. )
We were talking while I was looking at the site, and he asked what I thought. I told him it was indeed a beautiful looking site. I asked who did the SEO work on the site. My designer, he replied. Did your designer tell you that search engines ban sites that use hidden text? What is hidden text, he asked. I explained. You mean that search engines will refuse to list my site!? My answer was yes.
What can I do to fix it? He asked. I replied that the text has to be a different color than the background. But then people will see it and it will ruin my beautiful site! I said, yeah, pretty much.
He was very upset and planned to call his wonderful designer, who was more than willing to take his money and design his basically worthless website.
So people, be careful what you demand when speaking with your web designer. Listen to our advice when given. Fancy is nice, but it isn’t necessarily better. Generally just more expensive.
